If you bought a home or built one from scratch, you will learn quickly that things often go wrong and need repair. This is true of every element in your home, including your HVAC system. Do you need to replace your HVAC system? If you are not sure, continue reading to learn about when you will need to replace your HVAC system.
HVAC systems are man-made, and while they are made to last for a long time, they will eventually wear out and need replacement. If your HVAC system is over 10 years old, chances are you will need to replace the system in a few years. It is not something many people want to think about, mainly because replacing the HVAC system can be expensive, but it may be a necessary evil.
THINGS ARE GOING WRONG
If you have had to call Fulford HVAC out to your home more than once a year for something besides our routine maintenance, this is a huge sign your HVAC system is on its last legs. If the capacitor has gone out, you had to replace the refrigerant or other issues; it may be time.
Like most industries, HVAC systems make huge gains year after year in efficiency and technology. What was the standard SEER, seasonal energy efficiency ratio, 10 years ago is no longer the same today. Most units sold today are SEER of 14-16, whereas those sold a decade ago or longer may only be SEER 10-13. The better the SEER, the better the efficiency of the unit. Replacing your HVAC system may save you money in the long term because of this.
Your old HVAC system is likely running on R22 refrigerant. The U.S. government is phasing this out for the R410A refrigerant. This means replacing your refrigerant in an old system will be significantly more expensive as the R22 is replaced. No more R22 will produce, so the expense of replacing the refrigerant will grow accordingly.
