Are you spending more than you should to cool and heat your home? Let Fulford Heating & Cooling perform a home energy audit to find out. We’ll come check your house and give you a complete list of areas where you can save money, what you are already doing to minimize energy use and what we think you need to do.
The US Department of Energy recommends energy audits. “A home energy audit, also known as a home energy assessment, is the first step to assess how much energy your home consumes and to evaluate what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient. An assessment will show you problems that may, when corrected, save you significant amounts of money over time,” the Department of Energy says.
The website says, “You can save 5%-30% on your energy bill by making efficient upgrades recommended by a home energy audit.”
Thirty percent is a LOT of savings. Even five percent, over the course of a year or more, is a lot of money.
When we come to check your house, we’re going to look in the crawl space, if you have one, the attic, the duct work, the outside walls and windows.
We will need to know a few things before we start:
• Who is home during working hours? We do need to come in the house to check inside units and the inside windows.
• What do you set the thermostat to? What temperature do you have during summer and winter?
• How many people live in the home? This makes a difference. More people use more energy.
• Is every room used? This is important because a room that’s not in use all the time doesn’t need to be heated or cooled all the time. We may be able to give you simple tips to close that room off and save money.
